FIKA

I’m always excited about small living solutions. We love our tiny house, and I constantly think about ways to creatively maximize our space (in my head I’ve already turned our attic into an amazing loft, and our backyard shed into a teeny tiny studio space :)).

I also spend a good amount of my time thinking about creative business solutions, so when I came across this very small half home/half store, I just had to share.

Located in the neighborhood of Toshima, Tokyo this little gem, built on a 355 sq ft plot of land, is living space during the week and Scandinavian antique store on the weekends. FIKA, which is Swedish for ‘coffee break’, offers an intimate space, where the customer can find a unique collection of Scandinavian pieces that were carefully selected over the years. In the owner’s own words, the space creates an experience that is much more about “meeting an object, than buying.”

Could you imagine living and working in a space like this? I totally could!

You can find more images over on OnDesign, the company that designed this space. Find images of the “before” here.
